Laser Hair Removal

DSA Dermatology now uses state-of-the-art high-speed LightSheer® Duet™ laser technology for the permanent reduction of hair. It is a wonderful solution for men and women, as legs and backs can now be treated in about 15-20 minutes comfortably, without the need for messy treatment gels or topical anesthetics. Virtually any part of the body can be treated.

For years, men and women have endured expensive, painful, and inadequate hair removal techniques. Laser hair removal is a preferable alternative to plucking, waxing, and shaving – now more so than ever. In 2009 alone, over one million Americans chose laser hair removal, because of its proven effectiveness and safety

The high speed LightSheer® Duet™ produces a larger beam of intense light. The pigment (melanin) within the follicles readily absorbs this light energy. During the hair removal process, the light beam pulsates for a split second, which allows the hair to absorb the light, in turn creating heat. The procedure reduces follicle’s ability to grow new hairs significantly. Over time, it results in permanent reduction of hair.

Laser hair removal cannot be accomplished in a single session, because hair grows in a specific cycle, with active and resting phases. Hairs in the active growth phase react to laser energy. Therefore, a series of carefully timed sessions is required for complete treatment. These appointments are usually scheduled five weeks apart.

After a laser session, you may notice slight redness in the treated area. However, it should be minimal and fade in a matter of hours. We may ask that you postpone treatment if your skin is tanned, or has been exposed to a considerable amount of sunlight. Additionally, the area to be treated needs to be close shaven immediately before treatment. You can do this at home, and when you arrive at our office we will help you with difficult to reach areas.
