CHILDHOOD
Caring for your skin from a young age and protecting against sun exposure will help prevent wrinkles and skin cancer.
Avoid sunburns using safe physical (zinc and titanium) sunscreens for prolonged exposure. Choose a broad-spectrum (UVA and UVB protection) sunscreen rated at least 30 SPF.
TEENS
Focus on good cleansing and sunscreen use. If acne is a problem, see a dermatologist for product guidance.
TWENTIES
Focus on good cleansing and sunscreen use. Introduce a mild antioxidant or retinol to your skin care regimen to reduce damage caused by sun, stress, and pollution and to increase your collagen and elastin production.
THIRTIES
You start to see small crow’s feet at the corners of your eyes. A few freckles or brown spots may appear. Your skin may be slightly drier and not have as much glow. In addition to your normal routine of cleansing, sunscreen, and antioxidants, now is the time to introduce or increase the dose of your retinols, antioxidants, and eye creams. A healthy diet and regular exercise are very helpful, as well as a good physical sunscreen, such as a Dsaderm or Eltamd sunscreen. You may also consider mild preventable treatments with neuromodulators such as Botox for around the eyes, or lasers such as IPL (photofacial) for some brown spots or small red veins appearing on the face, neck, or chest.
FORTIES
The subtle lines around your eyes, between your eyebrows, and around your nose and mouth are beginning to deepen. Your lips, especially the upper, are thinning, and fine lines are developing around your mouth. Your normal routine of cleansing, sunscreen, antioxidants, retinols, and eye creams may not be enough. You might consider a neuromodulator such as Botox or Dysport to help correct lines and prevent deeper lines in the future, and dermal fillers such as Juvederm or Restylane to help create a more youthful appearance. We prefer a more natural look, but brown spots and red veins, and fine wrinkling can become more pronounced at this stage. These changes can be successfully addressed with lightening agents, anti-aging and lightening peels, and medical grade products such as retinols, vitamin C, and other antioxidants. More persistent changes can require neuromodulators such as Botox or hyaluronic fillers such as Restylane or Juvederm. Lasers such as IPL-photofacials, non-ablative fractional lasers, and micro-needling radio frequency devices can also be extremely helpful.
FIFTY PLUS
Now, with hormone changes, we see a more pronounced decline in collagen, elastin, and oil production. This leads to skin thinning, dryness, and drooping. Sun damage will increase the deepening of lines, wrinkles, brown spots, and veins. Your skin care regimen should take into consideration the effects hormone changes have on your skin when establishing a skin care routine. Non-drying cleansers, richer moisturizers, retinols or glycolics, antioxidants, and sunscreens are usually indicated. Botox, fillers, and advanced treatments can help you avoid many more aggressive surgical procedures. You don’t want to look plastic. You just want to look fantastic for yourself. We can help you achieve this, however minimal or aggressive you want to be.
