What is ResurFx® Laser Skin Resurfacing?
ResurFx® is a non-ablative fractional laser that helps rejuvenate minor to severe skin blemishes. This means that this type of laser cannot cut or produce bleeding. The surface of the skin remains intact and all the laser work is able to be done beneath the surface of the skin. The risk of side effects such as scarring is extremely rare and recovery time is very rapid. You can even wear makeup the same day! Dr. Mcconnell has personally had 6 of these procedures and has applied makeup and gone back to work after. We do recommend that you “chill” and relax after the procedure, but if necessary you can return to work. ResurFX can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles, large pores, sun spots, and other forms of skin damage.
Is ResurFx® Safe?
ResurFx® has been FDA cleared since 2013, and is a safe option backed by extensive research. Although DSA Dermatology has been using this type of laser for 10+ years, we recently upgraded to the ResurFx because of its improvements. The old lasers of this type required 4-8 passes across the face. The ResurFx only requires one, so it is so much more comfortable and easy to use!
How long does the procedure take?
Treatment times depend on the area, and condition of the skin. It may be completed in as little as 20 minutes or it may take up to 2 hours. Your skin would be cleansed then a topical anesthetic would be applied for one hour, removed and then the laser procedure would be performed.
Will multiple treatments be required?
This depends on the results you want. Most patients receive between 3 and 6 treatments.
Dr. McConnell will work with you to determine how long it will take to get the results you are seeking.
Who is ResurFx® for?
ResurFx® can be used on both men and women of any skin type and age. You will have to take extra precautions when treating skin types IV and above and if this is your skin type the doctor may suggest trying our skin pen treatments instead. All of your choices will be presented to you at the time of your consultation with the Doctor. It is used on many areas of the body, including the hands, chest, abdomen and neck. It can be used to improve scars on any area of the body.
What results can I expect?
Patients will see smoother, fresher, and more youthful looking skin with improved texture and tone. Wrinkles and fine lines are reduced and unwanted brown spots will be erased. Depresses scars can be made to fill in, and raised scars can be flattened.
Is there any downtime?
Depending on how aggressive the procedure is, patients can expect mild “sunburn” feeling for one hour and then there should be no discomfort. Redness, dryness, or mild swelling will subsides within the next two to three days. Makeup can be applied any time and within one week, everything will be back to normal.
Is it painful?
Patients experience a sensation of increased heat, a sunburn feeling for an hour and topical anesthetics will be applied for one hour before to minimize any discomfort.
Should I choose ResurFx® instead of other procedures?
ResurFx® is a great choice for skin resurfacing but it doesn’t offer the same drastic changes as a surgical facelift, or the same benefits as Botox® or Filler. It is more geared towards the texture of the skin such as large pores, scars or wrinkles rather than large skin folds.
Can ResurFx® be used in conjunction with other procedures?
It may be compatible with other cosmetic treatments. We often combine it with IPL (Photofacial) because the IPL is able to get rid of surface redness and brown spots while the ResurFX gets to deeper pores and wrinkles. Dr. McConnell will work with you to determine what the best procedure is for you.
